17 months fly by so quickly!

Kevin turned 17 months old yesterday. I can't believe how much my baby has grown. We went to the Dr's and he got a weigh in. He is 27lbs and 13oz. That means he is almost 20 pounds heavier than when he was born!

For the most part he likes to spend his days climbing on anything he can and saying No when he knows he is doing something he shouldn't. He really enjoys climbing over the back of the sofa on to the ledge behind. If he is on the little sofa he goes after the phone base, usually pushing the message button. On the big couch he will climb over and try to get to Bailey's food.

Today Kevin and I had a blast, we visited with my friend Leslie and her two kids. Rachel is 3 1/2 and Andy is 13 days older than Kevin. Funnily enough, the boys were due on the same day, Andy came a day early and Kevin had to be induce 12 days late. Kevin and Andy had a blast playing together, I can see more play dates in our future.

I have updated our slideshow, but the month is early so the pictures are few. Also in the slide show are pictures of our wonderful new flower garden. Steve cleared it all out and I planted the flowers this weekend. It looks so pretty!

Little monkey!

Kevin REALLY likes climbing up everything these days. You can't leave him out of your sight or he will crawl on top of the kitchen table, over the couch, or any other object taller than he is. Well yesterday I gave him the laundry sorter to "drive" into the laundry room. This is one of his favorite things to do on laundry day. But after a few minutes he didn't bring it to me, so I had to go looking for him. This is what I found.

I have no idea how he managed to climb into it. But he did. :-)

A few fun moments

Last week I gave Kevin his first Peep. He isn't a fan like I am, but he was fun to watch. Also I am very happy we got a new patio set last week. Here's a photo for you to check it out.Kevin playing in the backyard.

Our new wonderful patio set! It has 6 sling back chairs (they slightly bounce) and a hexagon table. I can't wait to break it in at our Memorial day party. :-)

Kevin really liked the idea of the peep, he was double fisting it. And yes he did enjoy a chocolate caramel bunny before the sugary peep. Yep, he's spoiled. :-)

He really didn't like the Peep sticking to his fingers. To get it off he had to shake his hands rapidly and then it still wouldn't come off. I took mercy on him and pulled it off his fingers. After that he wanted nothing to do with them.

Good friends, live music and a playground

Tonight we went to Central Market to watch our friend Karen play with the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble. We had a great time, Kevin really liked being able to play on the playground. Our little boy is fearless, he loves to climb on everything and if he falls, he just gets back up and keeps going. We also got a special treat by watching the Sabaya belly dancers. It was great to see them shimmy and shake. We had a blast, it was good to catch up with friends, eat a good meal, listen to good music and for Kevin to run off some energy.

A Happy Easter

I am so happy Kevin sat still long enough for a family picture!

We hope all of our friends and loved ones had a beautiful Easter. God Bless!

It's Easter time!

I took Kevin to his first Easter egg hunt this morning. We had a blast. It was hosted by one of the leaders of my Mom's group, she has a beautiful house on three acres, lots of room for kids to play. She had it set up really nicely, the little kids (2 and under) got to hunt for eggs in the front of the house. And the older kids got to hunt for eggs in the back of the house. They were hidden according to the kids skill level.

There was also a great little slide that Kevin loved! and a large playscape in the backyard. The large playscape was a bit big for Kevin so he decided to taste test all the rocks instead. :-)

During the egg hunt I wasn't able to get any photos (sorry) because I was too busy coaxing Kevin to pick up the eggs. He preferred to pick them up and give them to other kids (such a good sharer!), eat them, or just run around.

On the way home he crashed, but after his nap he was really interested in opening his eggs. For a treat I let him eat a little bag of skittles, he loved them! Here are some photos for you to check out.

Bath time

In the last month Kevin has decided he really doesn't like baths. We don't know why, he just cries and begs to get out. Last night Steve tried to use the shower head to rinse him off. He loved it. I caught this shot and absolutely adore it, it really caught the moment.

Unfortunately Dad has the touch. I tried it tonight and it didn't work so well for me. :-)

Kevin successfully eats with a spoon.

Kevin has really been wanting to feed himself with utensils lately and I have been hesitant. Mainly because of the mess, bad mom I know. So today I started by giving him peas. He really couldn't get them to stay on the spoon. So we moved to Strawberry applesauce. It worked a bit better. He did get frustrated because he would turn the spoon sideways and the applesauce would fall off. But eventually he figured out how to keep the spoon still as it moved to his mouth. He hasn't quite gotten the scooping part down yet. But in the end he felt it took took too long so he just ate/sucked it out of the container.

Ahh forget the spoon just suck it out of the container.

UT Spring Jamboree

We had a great time today at the University of Texas Football Spring Jamboree. We got to visit with our dear friends the Ballards (Jon, Tara, Ainsley and Keegan) and Steve's parents. I didn't have time to watch too much of the game because Kevin wasn't really fond of sitting, but that made the game even more fun. He did really enjoy the cotton candy we got him and had fun going up and down the stairs into the stadium.

There was only one drawback to the game. The people who were sitting in front of us weren't "kid friendly". Since Kevin didn't want to sit still we let him walk around at our feet a bit, as a result he would accidentally hit the people in front of us. Most people we have run into would be ok with it and make a comment about how cute he is, or how old he is etc. Instead these people got mad and moved, they were also part of a big group so some of their friends were in front of Steve. To my shock they began talking about how rude it was for someone to bring a "baby" to the game. I was really glad they moved. But then a friend of theirs came in late. They said they wanted to punish him for being late and make him sit in front of Kevin and I. OUCH! That hurt.

I always thought it wouldn't bother me if people weren't "kid friendly" but I guess I was wrong. Tara and Steve both told me to shake it off. But it really still bugs me. I don't think it is wrong for me to bring my child to a football game, nor is it punishment to have to be near him. I really feel sorry for those people. Kids are such wonderful little people and make your life so much more rewarding. It is a shame they don't feel the same way.

But that aside we really did have a good time.

I think this is such a great picture of Kevin and Steve.

Hi Ho, It's off to Grammy's We Go.

Well as many of you know this last week has been a bit tough for our family. My Grammy (my mom's mom) was in a bit of an accident last week (Tuesday). She was walking through a parking lot when a pickup accidentally backed into her. The tailgate of the truck hit her hip and broke it.

On Wednesday my mom, Kevin and I drove up to Athens, TX to visit her in the hospital. It was the first time Kevin had ever met her, which was pretty fun. Although we do wish it would have been different circumstances. We are very happy that Grammy is doing much better. She did have surgery on her hip and is going to be transferred to a rehab facility in Tyler tomorrow.

Along the way we did stop and check out the bluebonnets. Kevin had fun stretching his legs and picking at the flowers. He also did excellent on our trip. He and I spent a lot of time in the car driving between Grammy's house (Gun Barrel City) and the hospital in Athens. I am so proud of him.

It was also really neat going to see her house again. I haven't been there since her sister/neighbor, Aunt Ann, passed away. Aunt Ann's house has since been sold and they tore it down. It was so strange seeing the empty lot. But Fanny's well is still there. (Fanny was her dog and long time companion, when Fanny died she had a well built to remember Fanny. We call it Fanny's well). It was also really neat to see water in the canal. Their houses back up to Cedar Creek Lake, and for many years the water level was really low.

Here are a few pictures from our trip.
