Times are changing!

So I have two updates for everyone. The first is that Kevin is now 20 months old. In the last month I can see so many ways he has changed. He is beginning to listen when we say NO, he is also really getting good at ignoring us. :-) I think we are probably beginning to see the terrible two's. He really does not like getting into his carseat. We let him run up to the car and climb in, but he wants to drive or sit in the passenger seat. When "try" to put him in his seat he screams, arches his back, or tries to climb over the back of his seat. It is really a production. He is also seeing a lot more of timeout. Which right now is him being put in his crib. I can't get him to sit in a corner or stay put for a regular time out. But today he successfully climbed out of his crib during timeout. Over the baby monitor I heard some of his noisy toys in his room go off and realized for them to go off he had to have crawled out of his crib.

He does have his sweet moments though. He is learning to hug by wrapping his arms around your neck. And if you go to put him down and he doesn't want to, he will wrap his legs around your waist really tightly. He loves to give high fives, fist bumps and blow kisses. He also really likes to pat people and say their name, or at least try to identify them correctly. So for me he would pat my chest and say Mommy, for Steve he would say Daddy. He often likes to call himself Daddy or Mommy though. I am trying to get him to say his own name, but he can't quite wrap his tongue around it yet. He also likes to look at pictures around the house and identify Mommy and Daddy. But everytime I show him a picture of himself he says Daddy. Pretty funny. :-)A cute photo of Kevin. He has figured out how to open our drawers. So he opened my sock drawer and put on socks and then he found one of my bathing suits and decided to "put" it on.

Our second update is that we have decided to give the inside of the house a bit of a makeover. As many of you know the paint colors in our kitchen, breakfast area, and living room are green and purple. Well we decided to turn the green into a different shade of green. So over the last two days after Kevin has gone to bed, Steve and I have painted like crazy. For the most part it is done. I do have some touch ups here and there, and eventually we may turn some purple into green. I thought it would be neat to show you some pictures of before and after. I don't have the valances back up or things hung on the wall, but you get the idea. :-)

This photo was taken this past year at our Memorial Day BBQ.

A shot of the living room.

This was taken after day one of painting. You can see the difference between the colors.

And how the dining room looks now.

Anything Like Me

I heard this song on the radio today and absolutely loved it. It really sums up how I think Kevin's life will be. It is called Anything Like Me and it is sung by country star Brad Paisley. I can't speak for Steve, but to me this song will ring true. While I didn't climb tall trees, I did ride my bike too fast, try to melt things with a magnifying glass, and get a speeding ticket (or two). I am so happy that he will hug me, his Momma. And the last line rings so true. There's worst folks to be like, oh he'll be alright if he's anything like me (or Steve).

Lyrics to Anything Like Me:
I remember sayin' I don't care either way
Just as long as he or she is healthy I'm okay
Then the doctor pointed to the corner of the screen
And said, "You see that thing right there, well you know what that means"

And I started wondering who he was going to be
And I thought heaven help us if he's anything like me

He'll probably climb a tree to tall and ride his bike too fast
End up every summer wearin' something in a cast
He's gonna throw a ball and break some glass in a window down the street

He's gonna get in trouble, oh he's gonna get in fights
I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep
It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my pay back if he's anything like me

I can see him right now, knees all skinned up
With a magnifying glass tryin' to melt the Tonka truck
Won't he be a sight with his football helmet on?
That'll be his first love, til his first love comes along

He'll get his heart broke by the time he's in his teens
And heaven help him if he's anything like me

He'll probably stay out to late and drive his car to fast
Get a speeding ticket, he'll pay for mowing grass
He's gonna get caught skippin' class and be grounded for a week

He's gonna get in trouble, we're gonna get in fights
I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep
It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my pay back if he's anything like me

He's gonna love me and hate me along the way
Years are gonna fly by I already dread the day

He's gonna hug his momma, he's gonna shake my hand
He's gonna act like he can't wait to leave
But as he drives out he'll cry his eyes out
If he's anything like me
There's worst folks to be like, oh he'll be alright if he's anything like me

Fist bump

For a few weeks we have been getting Kevin to do a fist bump and it is quite cute. But today this commercial came on tv and he ran up to it and was saying "Bam" and trying to give the tv a fist bump. I was a bit confused and then the lady and the man in the commercial gave each other fist bumps. It cracked me up. It is a Progressive Auto insurance commercial where "Flo" gives the guy a price gun to name is own price. He says he feels empowered and they do a fist bump. Here is a link to the commercial if you would like to see it for yourself.

Such a funny little man!

Luigi is... Lel low

Kevin has completely surprised us and has begun matching colors to words! He has this small board book that is based on the animated Cars movie. Each page shows a different car and says what color the car is. Two days ago when we were flipping through it Kevin automatically said Lel low (yellow) when we got to Luigi. I was shocked. So for the last two days I have been asking him what color a banana is, what color a particular block is. And he keeps getting it right! Today he began identifying the car, Doc, as blue. And just before he went to bed he did identify Chick Hicks (green) and Mater (brown). Now on both of these you have to be listening really hard to hear him say it, but he does.

I can't believe how much he learns each day!

19 months.

Another month has flown by! In the last few weeks Kevin and I have been laying low. We have had record breaking heat (as high as 106 degrees), so we have spent a good amount of time in his kiddy pool. Today I did buy him this great tunnel/tent combo. It will be great to set up on really hot days so we can play inside. Here are a few cute pictures of him.
