Kevin is a year and half!

A year and a half already! It is amazing how much he has grown in the last year. Kevin had a great checkup this morning. He weighs 27lbs 14oz (75% for his age) and is over 33 inches tall (73%). I can't believe he is almost 3 feet tall! He has hit all of his milestones, and a few 2 year milestones as well. The physicians assistant was a bit surprised that he still won't say Momma or Dada. But was impressed with blueberry and thank you.

She did warn me that this is a difficult time because he will like to experiment. i.e. what happens when I throw this toy in the garbage. What will it be like if I run out into the street. etc. We have already seen a few of these experiments but it sounds like there are a lot more to come. :-)

I want to capture the moment and keep it in a bottle.

This evening Kevin was so cute. He had gotten his bath, was dressed for bed, and sweetly looked at me and said Night Night. I grabbed his milk and followed him to his crib. He dropped his toy, said Up. I picked him up and he gave me a nice long cuddle. Then leaned over and I put him in his crib. As I walked out he said Night Night and what some what sounded like Love you.

This is a moment I don't want to forget. So I am blogging it, so I can share it with the world.

The fright of my life.

Kevin gave me the scare of my life today. We have been running a lot of errands the last few days so I decided to treat us to an hour at the duck pond. Since it was later in the afternoon I decided to drive.

As we were feeding the ducks Kevin took a liking to this one white duck (aka an Aflac duck) he was splashing around in the water and grooming himself. Kevin got right up to the edge of the water because he liked getting splashed by the duck. Suddenly Kevin slipped and was laying face down in the water.

I ran to him as fast as I could and pulled him out. It turns out that the pond suddenly drops off about 3 feet. Fortunately Kevin held his breath so he never inhaled water. But we both got pretty soaking wet and I was terrified.

Thankfully a sweet mom named Tara (had never met her before) wasn't too far away and asked if we needed help. She was awesome at helping me catch my breath, and completely understood when I shed a few tears. She told me that her son also fell into the pond a few years ago, she was several months pregnant, and had to dive in after him too. That really helped me feel like I wasn't a bad mommy.

After all is said and done, Kevin is perfectly fine, he was up and running as soon as he was out of the water. He never got scared. As for me, well I won't forget this day for a long time, if ever. And I am thinking Kevin slipped because he was trying to "pet" the duck. So it will be a while before I am ready to take him back to the pond, or to let him get near the ducks.

Unfortunately my cell phone and camera were in my pockets. So there may have been two casualties. Steve is trying to dry them out, but we won't know for a few days if they will work again or not. But you know me, before I realized the camera was damaged I snapped a few pictures. My phone wasn't working so I gave it to Kevin to play with. Sorry for the blurriness around the edges, but that is what pond water will do to a camera. :-)

Mischievous Monkey!

Kevin made a huge mess today of what was left of his lunch. So while I was cleaning up, he went off to play. After 2 minutes, it got really quiet... you know what that means, he was up to no good. So off I went to find him. I couldn't believe what I found.

Kevin had crawled onto the toilet, on to the bathroom cabinet and into the sink. When I found him he was looking pretty cute.

He had been making faces and talking to himself. But if you also look at his right hand you can see he was taking the bathroom cup and "filling" it up with water from the cat's dish.

Getting some water. Now please don't worry, he wasn't actually getting any water, he had already poured all the water in the sink, and all over the floor and counter.

"Drinking"

Now what you can't really see is that Kevin had also pulled the soap and lotion dispenser into the sink with him . He had also turned on the faucet and water was running all over his legs and saturating his diaper. Thankfully it is warm outside, so I was able to carry him into the back yard and strip him out of his wet clothes and diaper.

So much fun!

Today I got Kevin a small plastic swimming pool with a slide. He really likes the slide in our back yard, and the sturdy plastic sides makes it easy for him to step over.

As many of you know, Kevin really isn't a fan of the water. So I was hoping this pool would help him become more comfortable for our Bahamas trip in June.

I was totally shocked when he got in and LOVED it! He laid down in the water, something he refuses to do during bath time. He splashed water in his face alot! and never cried. In fact he just kept doing it over and over again. For 30 minutes he played in the pool. I can't remember a time when he laughed so much. He really loved it. So now I know what we will be doing a lot of this summer.

Kevin after he first got in the pool. A little wet.

Going all in!

Getting out so he can go down the slide.

On the slide.

Realizing his hair is wet. He does this just about every night during his bath. He just looks at you like "how did it get wet?"

Enjoying splashing around.

Sweet Monkey!

Kevin loves to wear our shoes around the house. Here he is in Steve's tennis shoes.

Kevin's new favorite place to hang out. He likes to climb up here, from the end of the ledge, or from over the back of the sofa. Bailey likes it when he is up there to pet her.

As you can see we have a space between the ledge and the sofa. He likes to drop down between the space and hang out. He also likes this spot when his favorite commercials are on "National American University" and "Reid's Dry Cleaning". He really likes to "bop" to the theme songs.

And today he couldn't get enough of Bailey. He kept following her around the house and using her as a pillow. It was pretty cute, but after a while Bailey had had enough.
